Synthetix operates a decentralized perpetual futures protocol on Ethereum that combines off-chain order matching with on-chain settlement. The system uses a high-performance central limit order book for matching, then settles trades directly on-chain. This hybrid approach gives you CEX-like execution speed and liquidity while keeping your custody and final settlement secured by Ethereum itself. The protocol's liquidity comes from the Synthetix Liquidity Provider vault, which is backed by SNX tokens staked as collateral. This staked collateral underwrites both the sUSD stablecoin issuance and the solvency of the liquidity pool. You get MEV-resistant execution because order matching happens off-chain before settlement, reducing the exposure to front-running that plagues many on-chain protocols.
