SKY is the governance token for Sky Protocol, which launched in 2024 as an upgraded version of Maker Protocol. It gives you voting power over how the protocol operates and evolves. The protocol itself centers on USDS, a decentralized stablecoin pegged to the US dollar, letting you trade, save, and earn without surrendering control of your funds to any intermediary. The system runs entirely on smart contracts, meaning no central entity manages your money. You get two core tokens working together: USDS handles stable value storage, while SKY handles community governance decisions. If you hold SKY, you can stake it in the Staking Engine to help secure the network and earn rewards, similar to putting money in an interest-bearing account. This setup gives you direct participation in protocol decisions while maintaining full self-custody.
